To support its activities, UNDP utilizes ICT to leverage internal capacities on office effectiveness and efficiency.  Through this internship programme, it is expected that student with good education experience can be enhanced through practical work assignment; expose interns to an international environment; expose them to work of the Organization with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. UNDP offices will also benefit from the assistance of qualified students specialized in ICT professional fields.

  • Ability to review a variety of data, identifies and adjust discrepancies, identify and resolve operational problems
  • Ability to perform work of confidential nature and handle a large volume of work
  • Some experience in client support, such as, a Help Desk or User Support Unit,
  • Ability to provide input to business processes re-engineering, elaboration and implementation of new systems

The following minimum qualifications are required:

  • Enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (Second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (if a candidate is graduating before the internship period begins, they are no longer eligible);
  • Should have sufficient skills on MS-Sharepoint 2007, MS-SQL and ASP.net;
  • Proficiency in English and normally at least one additional UNDP working language (i.e., French or Spanish). Fluency in Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese or Russian is an asset;
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN, and of UNDP in particular, and have a personal commitment to UNDP’s Statement of Purpose  and to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
  • Demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Financial Issues

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
  • The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, health and life insurance, etc.
