Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director & Programme Specialist for Environmental Sciences (PS/ES) UNESCO Office, Jakarta, and working closely with the Environmental Programme Unit and colleagues in the office as a team, the incumbent shall be responsible for assisting in developing, planning, producing layout/graphic design and copywriting/editing for the Unit’s technical and promotional materials. Materials include a wide variety of formats and delivery vehicles including: technical reports; proposals; booklets and books; presentations; newsletters; posters; brochures; CD/DVDs; web pages; etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES are to oversee all production aspects from concept to finish including:
- graphics design and layout;
- copywriting, and proofreading and editing;
- video conversions to web compatibility and CDs;
- advising and working with program and project partners to develop joint products;
- assisting in identifying local suppliers for printing and audio-visual materials and ensure the output is delivered in proper quality and time;
- organizing and maintaining the Unit’s image and multi-media catalogue; and
- performing any other related task that may be assigned by the DD & PS/ES UNESCO Office, Jakarta.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in the arts, literature, graphics design, or related fields.
- Strong graphics design, layout, video-editing, writing, proofreading and editing skills, and must have a strong, conceptually, innovative approach to production.
- At least 2 years of practical experience in the design, editing/copywriting, and production of digital and print products.
- Proficiency in using graphics/publishing, web, and HTML software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, QuarkXPress, DreamWeaver, etc.).
- Candidate will possess organizational skills sufficient to prioritize workload while managing multiple tasks with multiple deadlines.
- Candidate should possess exceptional communication skills and the experience and ability to work directly with production managers and vendors.
- Strong technical and popular writing/editing English and Indonesian skills.
- Although background in environment/science is not a requisite, the candidate should be able to quickly understand environment/science material and write/convey its key points through design and writing.
- Photographic skills are a plus.
